The Seosan Cultural Foundation (Chairman Lee Wan-seop) announced on the 22nd that this year’s festival,
held from September 26 to 28 at the Haemieupseong Fortress area under the theme
“Goseong Bangga Season 3 – Encountering the Wisdom of the Past, Present, and Future,”
was well received as a green transition festival emphasizing environmental protection and sustainability.
This year’s festival drew attention with various initiatives to put ESG values into practice.
Across the venue, visitors could participate in hands-on programs promoting sustainability
— including the expanded use of reusable containers, eco-friendly food stalls, utilization
of wind and solar power, pedal-powered juice-making experiences, and an eco-friendly zone.
Notably, many attendees voluntarily joined the waste reduction and recycling campaign
by using reusable containers, eco-bags, and environmentally friendly keyrings.
Eco-themed activities that combined play and learning also received
an enthusiastic response from families and children.
The highlight of this year’s festival was the introduction of the
nation’s first “Eco-Smart Safe Drinking Fountain.”
This system continuously monitors water quality in real time,
ensuring clean and safe drinking water while addressing the
shortage of fountains within Haemieupseong Fortress.
It significantly reduced the use of disposable plastic bottles and
contributed to lowering carbon emissions, earning praise
as a symbolic feature of an eco-friendly festival.
Lim Jin-beon, CEO of the Seosan Cultural Foundation, stated,
“This year’s Haemieupseong Festival went beyond being a simple traditional cultural event — it became a meaningful festival where citizens actively practiced carbon reduction and environmental protection together. We will continue to promote ESG values and develop it into a sustainable cultural festival for future generations.”
Meanwhile, the Seosan Haemieupseong Festival — a regional flagship event that reinterprets
the history and culture of the Joseon-era Haemieupseong Fortress in a modern way —
has established itself as Seosan’s leading cultural and tourism attraction,
drawing over 200,000 visitors each year.
